Al-Haafith – The Preserver

[table id=38 /]

Al-Haafith is one of the beautiful 99 Names of Allah Almighty. It is derived from the word Hifz which means to preserve or to protect. Allah protects, preserves, and takes care of His creation. Complete knowledge of this leads the Muslim to a greater understanding of the majesty of the Creator.

Al-Haafith, The Preserver

Allah is the One who protects the heavens and the earth and everything therein. The degree of His preservation depends upon the degree of compliance to His Deen, thus protecting us from His wrath on the Day of Resurrection.

“Allah is the best as a HAAFTITH” (Soorah Yoosuf 12:14)

Protection of His creatures

He is Al-Haafith, the preserver of various kinds of creatures. Some of them are in wombs, while others are in seeds, and even others are in kernels. It is wonderful how He preserves the genetic structure from one generation to the other. Indeed it is the manifestation of the great Haafith how weak and powerless non-living creatures are being preserved . He protects all things with the utmost order and balance. He protects things in Heavens and Earth, and also protects the creatures from decay until their predetermined time of their death.

Preserving Kaaba

The Kaaba is the sacred house of Allah. Allah Almighty Himself has taken the responsibility to protect the Kaaba. Indeed, He is the best protector and He will protect His house. Indeed the Holy Kaaba is the biggest manifestation of His ultimate protection.

Protection of Quran

Allah has sent Quran as a guidance for His creatures. All other holy books have been altered, but Allah has taken the responsibility for protection of Holy Quran. Ever since it was revealed, no changes have been made in its text.

Protection of His Prophet

The life of Hazrat Yunus is the best manifestation of how Allah protected His prophet. Once Hazrat Yunus boarded a ship. He has had enough and he set sail far away. At sea, a strong storm grew up and the crew was terrified. The pagan sailors felt that the gods of the sea must be displeased with them, so they draw lots to throw one man overboard to calm the storm. They draw indicated that Yunus should be thrown overboard. The terrified crew threw him overboard, thinking that in doing so, they will be protecting themselves and the ship.
Once in the water, something extraordinary happened. Allah sent a great fish (some describe it as a whale) to swallow Yunus whole. Once in its belly, Yunus descended to the bottom of the sea, filled with total despair.
Under those layers of darkness, Prophet Yunus prayed to Allah. He cried out, “there is no god but You,” and asked for help. In asking for help, his prayer was heard. Indeed, Allah helped him. He is Ar-Rahim. The whale swam up to the surface and ejected Yunus onto the shore.
Just as Allah had used it to save Yunus from the storm and from drowning in the sea, so He also used it to bring Yunus safely to land again. Thus, He protected His believer as a true protector.

Duaa for Protection

May AL-HAAFITH protect us from all evils in this world and from the punishment on the dead of judgment. Only He is the best protector. Ameen.
